BARRINGTON HAIR EXTENSIONS

KERATIN HAIR EXTENSION AFTERCARE

  • Do not get hair wet for 48 hours following installation. This includes steam, sweat and rain.
This will allow the bonds to fully cure. Getting your hair wet before 48 hours can cause premature
loss of hair extensions and shedding.

  • Shampoo 2-3 times per week with sulfate and oil free shampoo, only condition your ends. Make sure to
thoroughly rinse your hair. You may experience itching if your hair isn’t fully rinsed.
    - Pureology, Unite, Davines and PureZero are great shampoo options for extensions.
    - Do not use dry shampoo or aerosol products on the bonds directly as they can disintegrate the bonds;
only in the areas where there are no bonds.

  • Never allow oil, conditioner or hot tools to touch the bonds. Never allow your hair to get
too oily, even natural scalp oil can cause bonds to prematurely slip.

  • Sleep with hair securely tied to avoid matting.
    - A low ponytail, braids, satin cap and satin pillow cases are recommended.

  • Use a boar bristle brush to brush your hair - starting with your ends
and gently moving up to your scalp while securing your hair.
A boar bristle is safe to brush your scalp and bonds with and will help
prevent your bonds from tangling. If bonds come out while brushing, you are likely being too rough.

  • Never sleep with wet hair, never flip your head over with wet hair and never put your hair
    up when it’s wet.

  • Make sure to keep bonds separated. As your hair grows out, gently go through your hair
and pull apart bonds if they’re stuck together. Any severe matting should be detangled
    by Barrington Hair Extensions.

  • Air drying is a safe and great option for drying keratin hair extensions.

  • When blow drying, use a cool setting on the bonds and your normal heat setting
throughout the rest of your hair. Blow in a downward direction, keeping the extension from flying around. Using a heat protectant is recommended to preserve the texture and color of your hair extensions.

  • Sunscreens containing Avobenzone will discolor hair extensions.
Make sure you review sunscreen ingredients before applying near your extensions
(including your face, neck, shoulders, etc). If this does happen,
please schedule a Malibu treatment at Barrington Hair Extensions to safely remove this stain.

  • Hair extensions will slip out and hair will be attached to the bond when this happens.
Do not panic! This is just hair that naturally shed and is stuck to the bond.
You can throw out extensions that fall out as they cannot be reapplied.
You can expect to lose 10-15 bonds throughout the life of each set of extensions.
Shedding is normal but excessive shedding and bond loss is not.
Please reach out with questions as soon as possible to troubleshoot any issues.

  • Chlorine can discolor and dry out hair extensions.
If you do swim in chlorine, make sure to use a detangling spray and
wash the chlorine out as soon as possible. Fresh water and salt water are safer options for hair extensions.

  • Schedule removal no later than 3-4 months after installation.
